MAYFLY AT THE MOVIES
Since 2015, Halesowen College has hosted the Mayfly Festival annually. For the fourth Mayfly Festival, we were proud to announce the theme was ‘Mayfly at the Movies’, during the festival attendees got the chance to experience their favourite songs from their favourite movies recreated by our talented music students and the Halesowen Orchestra.
When I was commissioned to produce a promotional video for the fourth annual Mayfly Festival, I decided to create a montage of footage from the event itself so that the audience can experience the tone and ambience of the festival and what it’s like to attend. I decided to set the promotional video to the song ‘Montage’ by Andy Hull which features Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe, from the film ‘Swiss Army Man’ because it helps reflect the upbeat and energetic tone of the festival. The song has a high tempo which generates a feeling of excitement and suspense within the audience which is the desired environment the festival will generate. Although some of the footage's quality is not the best, the promotional video was designed to reflect the high quality and brand of the Mayfly Festival and of Halesowen College’s brand, which I believe it succeeds in.
We sat down with Edward Woolams, lead singer of the UK based band ‘The Pines’ and headliner of Mayfly 2018 and asked him a couple of questions about Mayfly and its theme this year. I decided to make the interview have a more personal feel, I left the interviewer’s questions in which allows the audience to fully comprehend Edward’s answers, this also gave the video an unedited feel that further reinforced the personal tone. I set the interview to ‘What Are You Going to do When You’re Not Saving the World’ from Zack Snyder’s 2013 film ‘Man of Steel’. I chose to set the interview to the ‘Man of Steel’ score because it is personally one of my favourite film scores of all time, and ‘What Are You Going to do When You’re Not Saving the World’ in particular inspires me and motivates me so I wanted to convey this feeling in the interview so that we could inspire our audience to not only visit Mayfly themselves but to also follow their dreams to make music or films just like the performers and video crew are.
At the end of Mayfly at the Movies campaign, I generated a press pack which provided a simple and quick overview of all marketing material I produced for the festival in order to create a cross media cohesive campaign.
